The 2 Zoom alternatives that I use personally

Due to COVID-19 everybody is stuck at home doing video calls. So am I. And there are a lot of possibilities, most notably Zoom. That is a problem. Not only does this puts Zoom in a powerful position, it creates a security risk as well, because Zoom has not the best in class privacy practises.

All a bit too concerning to trust them over other companies. That’s way I present you two alternatives.

Whereby

Whereby is tool developed by the Norwegian company Video Communication Services AS. I use them for one to one meetings, both for business as with family and friends.

Jitsi Meet

For groups I prefer Jitsi Meet however. This is an open source software, so you can run it yourself, if you want to. This also means there are multiple instances. The most popular is the official instance, provided by American telecom company 8x8. If you are concerned about privacy or just want to use a European instance, because all participants are based in Europe, I recommend the instance provided by Infomaniak.

If you have any questions, just ask. I will happily answer them.

Tech note 2020-04-17

Today I have some special news. Arnold Analytics is shutting down, sort of. Let me explain. The Arnold Analytics that you used to know will be disappearing in October of this year. New sign ups will be frozen. If you already have an account, you can still access this.

Arnold Analytics, the company, will launch a new service instead: Indiemetrics. This will have the same philosophy as Arnold Analytics, the software, but a new set of features. Indiemetrics offers you more flexibility in terms of how you send data. You want server side tracking? You can. You want event tracking? You can. You have a website written in Angular and want to add pageview tracking? You can.

As this is a huge step for all of us, the Indiemetrics Team is willing to help you. Just drop us a short mail and we will respond as soon as possible.

Tech note 2020-03-31

Hey! Time for tech note number 2. A few extra features got added the last two weeks. Let's start with my personal favourite: Read to me, please. People who know me better would say that I tend to like to experiment. So that is just what I did. I added a method to have your data read out loud by your machine. Is this useful? I honestly do not know. Is it fun? Absolutely!

Certainly useful is the addition of the returning visitor metric. This percentage gives you in a look of en eye if your are building and retaining an audience online.

To end, two more. From now on, carbon offsetting is possible. For this we joined forces with BOS+. Also, a refer a friend program started. More on these in later posts.

3 Powerful Business Analytics Alternatives for 2020

For about a decade, Google Analytics has been the go-to for analytic information, but it is most certainly not the only one. Depending on what you need, Google Analytics may not be the best option. If you are looking for an alternative for business analytics, consider the following options:

Clicky

If you are looking for an analytics tool that provides simple tracking and will not slow down your site, Clicky might be the best option for you. Clicky allows you choose the data you wish to track and is GDPR compliant.

Unlike others, Clicky lets you actually view the user’s mouse activity. Such insight shows you how different users might interact with your site, areas they may avoid, areas they are most attracted to, and more.

Clicky is both simple and in-depth, giving the user the power they need to tweak and personalize their content and website.

Kissmetrics

While Google Analytics focuses on tracking page views, Kissmetrics is more concerned with the people behind those page views and their behavior. It allows you to search for people that have similar characteristics and even send out email campaigns to specific people.

As it integrates with third party email tools, such as Mailchimp, and sales tools, it provides a much simpler way to convert leads. Kissmetrics is a great analytics tool that allows the user to dig deeper than the surface information and choose what data matters the most to them.

Indiemetrics

Indiemetrics, previously known as Arnold Analytics, is a software that makes simplicity, ethics, and user experience the top priorities. This powerful analytics software gives you insights as to where your traffic is coming from, the type of content they are most attracted to, and more, allowing you to adapt the user experience for optimal performance.

While Indiemetrics provides you with this invaluable information, it does so without violating your visitors’ privacy and is completely GDPR compliant. Additionally, it compiles this data in a more compact and simplistic view than Google, making it easy for you to gather the insights you need.

Google Analytics may be the most popular business analytics tool, but as you can see, there are several other options. Test a couple out to find the one that has the characteristics you need and desire.

Tech note 2020-03-05

Today I launched the new version of Arnold Analytics. The most visible change is the look and feel, the same, just a little more frisky, a bit more fun way the crash numbers. And a map with visitor locations.

And one more thing, the pricing changed. Now you can test Arnold Analytics for as long as you want, using our new Essential tier, which is well free forever. Just you know.
